Manage PCOS Naturally

Without Birth Control or Fad Diets

PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is a lifelong endocrine and reproductive condition.

Why then are temporary fixes and medications with additional health risks the mainstream treatments recommended to women?

I dove into this topic during a live event “Manage PCOS Naturally Without Birth Control or Fad Diets”. I will provide a brief summary with you today then expand upon each topic in upcoming posts.

Hormonal Birth Control

This is the most common “treatment” for PCOS because of it’s band-aid like effect. It doesn’t matter what type of hormonal symptom you may have, like acne, hirsutism, irregular cycles, or infertility, birth control is the fix all.

Why? Likely because it flatlines hormones so you don’t experience the fluctuations of an unmedicated cycle. While the appeal of that makes sense, when you understand the importance of our natural fluctuations in overall health AND the risks of taking birth control, it will likely become less appealing. I will discuss this in more detail in a future post.

Fad Diets

Women with PCOS are a common prey for quick fixes and seemingly magical diets. Diets like keto, low carb, gluten free, dairy free, Paleo, and quick fixes like intermittent fasting are commonly touted as THE BEST ways to lose weight, improve acne, and regulate your cycle.

These may have short-term benefits and result in short-term improvements, but since PCOS is a lifelong condition, why would you focus on short-term? When you learn how these actually work AGAINST hormone balance and how to support the way your body is designed, you will still improve your symptoms and find a plan to stick with long-term. I will discuss this in more detail in a future post.

A Proven Approach to Lifelong Success

The main goal for anyone with PCOS and any health provider working with them should want lifelong success. But often our transactional healthcare system, with it’s short, one-on-one sessions that are barely long enough to say hello and here’s your prescription, is not helpful in managing PCOS.

Women with PCOS need explanation, validation, time to learn and implement a lifestyle, and a community to support them.

Community, in the form of group programs, is a proven approach to success. I will discuss this more in a future post.

It is possible to manage PCOS naturally when you learn the tools and have the support needed to implement them. I want nothing more than your health, wellness, and success.
